The 1981 Range Rover 1981 Camel Trophy Sumatra H.Fischer & W.Bays #1312 commemorates the historic 1981 Camel Trophy in Sumatra—the very first year the endurance event opened up to international (non-German) teams and the first time it used Range Rovers instead of Jeeps.
During this grueling 1,600 km trans-Sumatran expedition, team member Hans Horst Fischer (driving car #1312 with Wolfgang Bays) earned the legendary nickname "The Bavarian Mountain" after successfully coordinating a grueling, hour-long mud-hole rescue when their support vehicle got completely bogged down.
